Well, I'm just learning about scanners myself but here's my opinions:

I have a Visioneer "one Touch" scaner I've had about 5 years. It was out of commission for a couple years due to me changing operating systems, but a freind recently fixed it for me and it runs like a peach again. It's very user friendly to me, easy to configure buttons, scanning, and copying capabilites etc. It's also in my opinion a good one for art because it's got a pretty big screen and such.

However during the time mine was down I borrowed my aunt's, an HP "precision scan" . I liked it, but I prefer my other personally(probably because the HP was out for my blood, it was a rather irratable scanner with my comp). Both are good though, and I know HP usually makes good stuff.

It's all probably up to what you want it for (art or simple documents) and what you can afford and such.
ANd scanners vary, I notice an odd diff between the two I used: The Visioneer tends to have all my pictures come out in a more "cool" tone while the HP tends to make them "warm" (it'd like turn white into almost a cream color sometimes). *shrugs*

So anyways, Visioneer may be cheaper than HP, I didn't actually buy mine. But good luck looking for one... oh and I'd suggest making sure and getting one that connects through a USB cable, they're much easier to hook up...
